Episode 9 – Big Hearts, Open Minds

On this month’s episode, we sit down with Jon Hall to remember his wife, Gail Hall, and her dedication to uplifting Edmonton’s community. Jas Pandher reveals everything you’ve ever wanted to know about the Sikh Turban with the Turban Eh! event for Canada 150. We speak with Karen Unland about the landscape of podcasting in Edmonton, and we find out more about her new project: The Alberta Podcast Network. We also spend a little time at the Zoo where we catch up with ECF  donors and partners.

Episode 8 – Challenging Narratives

On this month’s episode, Post Media columnist Paula Simons challenges accepted narratives about Alberta’s history in her contribution to High Level Lit. High Level Lit is a Canada 150 project that is bringing 12 writers together to discuss Canada’s sesquicentennial through an Edmonton lens. Maria Almond tells us how the Don and Norine Lowry Awards for Women of Excellence are helping her pursue a Bachelor of Business Administration at NAIT. And, we hear about some impressive youth initiatives made possible by Edmonton Community Foundation’s Young Edmonton Grants Program.

Episode 6 – From Her Perspective

Happy International Women’s Day!

On this month’s episode, The Maggie Tree tackles women’s experience of war in their upcoming play 9 Parts of Desire; we get into politics with the Edmonton Women’s International Film Festival; we listen in as Edmonton Musical Theater sings out for Canada’s 150th; and we find out how Litfest is showcasing Edmonton’s literary swagger at Edmonton Community Foundation’s High Level Lit Salon Series.

Episode 5 – Festivals, Friendship and Popcorn

On this month’s episode, we take a field trip over to the Garneau Theatre.  Now the home of Metro Cinema, and a great place to go to celebrate Canada’s 150 with their “Home Movies” series. We learn about the hurdles women in Edmonton’s arts industry are facing, and how the SkirtsAfire festival is working to address those challenges. We find out how the Terra Centre gives teen moms and dads a place to reach their potential. And, we hear about Gurvinder Bhatia‘s unique approach to create an endowment fund with his friends.
